I'm Francesca Kennedy the founder of Ix (pronounced "eye ex") Style.
Ix is the Mayan word for water.
For every purchase, Ix donates to provide clean drinking water to children in Guatemala where my family is originally from.
In 2010, I was inspired to help after seeing the once beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala that I was baptized in and swam in as a child overrun with blue green algae and a new generation of children collecting the contaminated water to drink.
NASA called it one of the worst natural disasters to occur in our lifetime.
You could see the contamination from space (below is a photo of the contamination from space)!
By chance on that trip in 2010, I bought & read a little book called Start Something That Matters by TOMS' founder Blake Mycoskie...little did I know it was about to change my life!
When I arrived to Lake Atitlan on that trip and I saw children collecting the contaminated water and I knew I had to do something to help....
....to Start Something That Matters...so that's exactly what I did!
Inspired by the local Mayan textiles and leather craftsmanship,
Ix Style was created.

Luckily, water has an amazing capacity to cleanse itself.
Thanks to many NGOs in recent years the lake has been cleaned up and restored to its former beauty.
Many publications including Vogue now have named Lake Atitlan a top place to visit in the world!
LAKE ATITLAN: OUR INSPIRATION, OUR HOME, OUR HEART & SOUL
Lake Atitilan is where our grandfather Colonel Arthur Kennedy II lived for many years. It's where we spent most of our childhood birthdays and holidays.
Below are some family photos at the lake over the years. Our happiest memories are from the lake!
We're honored to be able to provide jobs to artisans living in the area and give back some of the love we've received from this magical place!
Over the years, the lake has been home to many great artists and intellectuals.
Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World once described it as "one of the most beautiful lakes in the world".
Ingrid Bergman (Casa Blanca), Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of Little Prince), writer Simone de Beauvoir, poet Louis de Aragon, even Nobel Laureate & poet Pablo Neruda all lived there.
This place has produced some amazing works of art and pure magic!

How Do We Help?
By supporting and working with our non-profit partner Asociacion Puente in Guatemala.
By empowering our artisans through commerce and production.
By paying a premium on each pair to make sure each purchase is ethical.
How Do You Help?
By buying a pair, you help provide clean drinking water to children through water filtration systems and rain collection units.
Each purchase makes a difference in freeing up time for kids.
Children who normally would walk miles a day to collect water for their families can instead spend that time in school.
Education is the single most effective way to break the cycle of poverty.
